Case Study
Hitachi’s Semi-Conductor
Hitachi’s Semi-Conductor Equipment business units are major supply partners to Intel’s worldwide operations and specifically their European Headquarters in Ireland. Hitachi supply Etching Systems in order to manufacture the computer chips and their Irish subsidiary is tasked with the on-going servicing and maintenance of these vital pieces of equipment. In 1999 Hitachi’s US management approached AbaKus to support their operations in Ireland which then employed 16 engineering staff located at Intel in Leixlip.
Initially, AbaKus, provided localised bookkeeping and payroll services in Ireland under the supervision of the US Finance executives. Over the years the relationship has grown substantially and AbaKus now provide a higher level of Financial Control support integrating accounting activities directly with the Head Office SAP systems and regularly communicating with Functional Department staff across the US on all aspects of the Irish operations.
In 2006, AbaKus also took on responsibility for Financial Control of Hitachi’s Israeli subsidiary which performs a similar role for Intel’s plant at Qiryat Gat which incidentally is the largest single investment ever made in Israel by the private sector.
Both Hitachi in Ireland and Israel remain Clients today and in many respects provide the benchmark for AbaKus’s professional service levels and capacity to meet Client’s requirements for response and adherence to demanding reporting deadlines.
Lesson from experience
Multinational Companies wishing to set up operations in Ireland, need not encumber themselves with the cost and bureaucracy of a local head office operation where there is an alternative route, through using AbaKus as a flexible, professional route to acquiring the local skills and knowledge required to get their project off the ground. And having started, hopefully
you wont want to change!
